What Is Sugar?
Sugar is Kyndred’s personalized health education platform, woven into your care so you can understand what is happening in your body, why it matters, and what comes next.
There is only so much information anyone can take in during a healthcare visit.
You may be explaining what has changed in your body, reviewing lab results, hearing a new diagnosis, weighing treatment options, and trying to remember the questions you meant to ask. Even when the conversation is thoughtful and unhurried, it can be a lot to hold at once.
Then the visit ends. Later, another question comes to you.
You remember the recommendation, but not quite how you arrived there. A phrase in your visit summary does not make sense. You wonder what to expect, what changes to pay attention to, or how you will know whether the plan is working. Too often, this is where patients are left to fill in the blanks alone. At Kyndred, we believe the explanation is part of the care.
That is why we created Sugar.
Understanding your care is part of receiving good care.
We were tired of leaving the understanding to search engines, social media, online forums, and AI tools.
The internet can help us find language for what we are experiencing, prepare questions for an appointment, and realize we are not the only ones searching for answers.
But by the time you are moving between a Reddit thread and the comments under a TikTok video, the problem is no longer a lack of information. It is figuring out what is trustworthy, what applies to your body, and what you are supposed to do with it.
For Black women, that search often begins after a concern was dismissed, rushed, or left unexplained. And even then, we often find ourselves adding “Black” to the search just to find stories, images, and experiences we can recognize ourselves in.
That resourcefulness has helped many of us navigate healthcare. But needing an entire research strategy to understand our care is still labor, and it should not be ours to carry alone.
Sugar brings that missing context into the care itself. Instead of leaving you to piece together the meaning of a lab result, diagnosis, medication, recurring symptom, or care decision on your own, Sugar offers clinically grounded education connected to your care and timed to the moments when you need it.
A LAB RESULT
What was measured, why it matters, and how it connects to the fuller picture.
A DIAGNOSIS
What the name means, how it may show up in your body, and which questions still deserve answers.
A NEW MEDICATION
What to expect, what to notice, and when to reach back out to your care team.
A CARE DECISION
Clear information about your options so you can consider what fits your body, values, and life.
The explanation belongs inside the care.
Sugar is not a collection of health articles waiting for you to figure out where to begin. The education is woven into your Kyndred experience, showing up in different ways depending on what you are navigating and what you may need next.
BEFORE A VISIT
Prepare for what may be discussed or evaluated, notice patterns in your body, and gather the questions you want to ask.
→
DURING YOUR CARE
Follow what your care team is considering, understand the options in front of you, and participate in decisions about your body.
→
BETWEEN VISITS
Return to what was discussed, follow your plan, track changes, and recognize when a question or concern should come back to your care team.
→
However it shows up, Sugar keeps the explanation connected to the care you are receiving, rather than leaving you with generic information to sort through alone.
Why We Call It Sugar
Come here, Sugar.
Give me some sugar.
In many Black homes and communities, sugar is more than something sweet.
It is a term of endearment. An offering of affection. A call to come closer.
The name carries a familiar kind of tenderness into a place where Black women have too often been met with distance.
We wanted Sugar to feel like what the name means: come closer. Closer to the information. Closer to the questions you want to ask. Closer to understanding what is happening in your own body.
Calling it Sugar does not mean we sugarcoat the hard parts. It means telling you the truth about your health clearly, with the context and care you deserve.
Your care should make sense to you.

Your care should make sense to you. 〰️
Understanding is part of quality care.
Getting the medicine right is only part of getting the care right. If you leave unsure why a recommendation was made or what comes next, something important was lost in the room.
Knowing why something was recommended helps you consider whether it fits your body, values, and life. Knowing what to expect makes it easier to notice when your experience differs from what you were told. And when you have language for what you are noticing, the next conversation can begin further along.
That means less time retracing the conversation and more time making decisions, noticing changes, and staying connected to your care.
